This past year I had to give up painting with acrylics because the solvents made me ill.
I returned to watercolors after several months of sulking about it all. I loved the freedom and spontanaity I felt with
watercolors, but I find them very difficult at times.
Working with large pieces of paper allowed me to be free and loose again. In between drying times -- it annoyed me -- I began painting note cards for my grandchildren in Virginia. Then I began sending them to friends. People started calling to say they loved them. Some framed them. As my mother would say, I "got a bee in my bonnet." The result is Fresh Aire Note Cards. In my work with these cards, I seek pure pleasure. As a disabled, homebound person, I need extra doses of "good stuff." My muses are in my garden, dancing among the buds and flowers and weeds, too. My other muses are my three cats -- I study their movements, examples of supreme grace and economy. On a practical level, they have their priorities straight: eat, sleep, and poop! I should be so lucky. In my work with the cards, I strive for economy, beauty and spontanaity. I absolutely love putting color on paper and watching what happens. It's the "happy accidents" that delight and satisfy me. Fresh Aire Note Cards came to fruition with the loving support of my husband, David. He's designed these web pages as well as given me business advice. He is my blessed soulmate. All cards come in 7x10 white Strathmore paper which are scored for folding to a size of 5x7. Each has three panels for writing. The flap on the envelope has a small faded detail to match the card.
